Vast field of solar panels under a cloudy sky in the Netherlands

Report on the 2030 CO₂ targets

The sun of the Netherlands lights the future

An educational overview of the development of renewable energy, the protection of the Dutch landscape and the transition toward a resilient agriculture.

Clean energy, a strong Netherlands

The world is changing and natural resources are under pressure. The Netherlands is working on a calm, thoughtful transition to new energy sources. This development is essential for the protection of the landscape and for the future of our children.

Global warming and the Dutch context

The Earth is changing at a rapid pace. Scientific measurements show that the average temperature has risen by more than one degree Celsius since pre-industrial times. This may seem small, but the consequences are profound: melting polar caps, rising sea levels and more extreme weather. For a low-lying country such as the Netherlands, this is a direct challenge. The protection of our coastline, our polders and our biodiversity requires long-term attention and well-targeted measures. Through the development of clean technologies, the reduction of fossil fuels and the restoration of natural ecosystems, we are working together on a livable future for the coming generations.

The role of the Netherlands in green energy

The Netherlands plays a notable role in the European energy transition. Wind farms in the North Sea supply hundreds of thousands of households with electricity, and millions of solar panels are installed on rooftops across the country. In addition, work is being done on green hydrogen, district heating networks and smart electricity grids. The 2030 targets are ambitious: halving CO₂ emissions compared with 1990. This requires cooperation between the government, knowledge institutes, Dutch energy companies and citizens. Protecting the climate is not the task of one party; it is a shared responsibility carried by the entire country.

The future of Dutch agriculture

Dutch agriculture has a rich history and now faces a fundamental renewal. Under the banner of Agriculture 5.0, precision techniques, circular farming and nature-inclusive management come together. Soil sensors, satellite data and renewable energy support farmers in an efficient and respectful use of land and water. Through the development of sustainable cultivation methods, the reduction of nitrogen emissions and the protection of meadow birds, a resilient future is being shaped for our rural communities. A strong Netherlands begins with healthy soils and clear skies.
